Food and portrait photography for The Gainsborough Bath Spa Hotel

06 December 2016

The Gainsborough Bath Spa Hotel is one of the Leading Hotels of the World and YTL’s first hotel in the United Kingdom. It is also home to the Spa Village Bath, tapping into the original thermal springs that supply the famous Roman Baths.

Over the past month, The Gainsborough has employed me for 3 separate shoots to collate imagery for their winter and Christmas marketing.

The first shoot was for the Mozart Festival in Bath whereby students from Bath Spa University performed classical music in the The Gainsborough’s restaurant prior to the concert. Portraits were required of the students that also needed to display the ambience of the dining area.

The second shoot was to promote their new festive lunch, created by head chef Dan Moon. The shoot took place in the restaurant over a period of 1.5 hours. Although scheduled at a quiet time of the day, guests could still potentially   occupy part of the restaurant area so no studio flashes could be used. Instead, I worked quickly to capture the four dishes using the natural ambience available and my on-camera speedlight. The shoot was challenging in such a short period of time but The Gainsborough were delighted with the results.

The final shoot was to capture the Christmas decorations both situated on the ground floor of hotel as well as the neighboring Bath Thermae Spa.
